Bears Roll Past Mesa 5-0

The Phoenix College Bears women's soccer team made a strong statement in their return home, earning a commanding 5–0 win over Mesa Community College on Tuesday evening at Hoy Stadium.

The Bears wasted no time getting on the board as Carmen Coronado scored in the opening two minutes off an assist from Camille Harris. Just before halftime, Riley Mahnke doubled the lead with a strike set up by Kiara Sanchez, sending Phoenix into the break ahead 2–0.

Phoenix came out firing in the second half. Coronado scored her second of the night in the 49th minute, assisted by Katarina Flores, followed by goals from Amaya Hernandez (assist from Giselle German) and Angelica Leal (assist from Irais Tapia) to seal the 5–0 victory.

The Bears completely controlled the match, outshooting Mesa 27–2 and holding a 5–2 advantage in corner kicks. Goalkeepers Bijou Holm and Lala Carachure combined for the clean sheet, each recording a save in the shutout effort.

With the win, Phoenix College improves to 10-1-3 overall and remains unbeaten in conference play at 10-0-2.

The Bears will will have their Sophomore Night at home on Saturday at 5:45 p.m. against Glendale Community College.
