Phoenix, Ariz. – The Phoenix College women's soccer team delivered a signature win Saturday evening, defeating No. 4-ranked Scottsdale Community College 1-0 at Hoy Stadium.
The Bears, ranked No. 11 nationally in the latest NJCAA Division II poll, capitalized on a corner kick in the 40th minute when freshman forward Selena Flores Craig headed home the game's lone goal off assists from Camille Harris and Kiara Sanchez.
Phoenix College's defense and goalkeeper Bijou Holm were stellar, turning away six shots on goal to record the shutout. The Bears generated seven corner kicks and limited Scottsdale's dangerous attack to 10 total shots.
With the win, the Bears move to 2-0-2 overall and 2-0-1 in conference play. Scottsdale falls to 3-1-0.
Phoenix College will look to build on the upset when they return to action on September 16 vs Paradise Valley at 7pm, Hoy Stadium.
