No. 4 Bears Fall to No. 1 Pima in Conference Semifinals

The No. 4 seed Phoenix College Bears saw their season come to a close Wednesday night after falling to No. 1 seed Pima Community College, 78–55, in the conference semifinals at Aztec Gym.

Phoenix College battled throughout the contest but faced a strong Pima squad that entered the game with a 25–4 record. The Aztecs jumped out to an early lead, taking a 22–12 advantage after the first quarter and extending it to 34–23 by halftime. Pima continued to build momentum in the third quarter, taking a 51–32 lead into the final period.

The Bears showed fight in the fourth quarter, putting together their strongest offensive stretch with 23 points, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome.

Jada Wilson led Phoenix College with 20 points on 8-of-15 shooting while adding five rebounds, four steals, and a block. Steffy Cervantes followed with 14 points, three assists, and three steals, while Daiana Hollman contributed 10 points and five rebounds, knocking down two three-pointers.

Bry'Ann Wiley added six points and five rebounds for the Bears, who recorded 14 steals as a team and continued to compete defensively throughout the game.

Pima was led by Lucy Fisher, who finished with 24 points and 13 rebounds to guide the Aztecs into the conference championship game.

Although the season ended in the semifinals, the Bears capped off a strong year for the program. Phoenix College finished with its most conference wins under head coach Prayer Branham and secured a second straight conference tournament appearance.

The season was also highlighted by individual recognition, as Wilson earned Conference Defensive Player of the Year honors after a standout year on both ends of the floor.

The Bears now say goodbye to their sophomore class, whose leadership and dedication helped continue the program's growth.

Once a Bear, always a Bear.
