The Bears came up just short Saturday afternoon, falling 46-44 to Chandler-Gilbert Community College at the Coyote Center.
In a defensive grind from start to finish, the Bears battled back in the fourth quarter but couldn't overcome a narrow halftime deficit in the two-point loss.
Phoenix shot 32.6% from the field and 37.5% from three, while converting 80% from the free-throw line. The difference ultimately came down to free throws and turnovers, as Chandler-Gilbert capitalized at the stripe and forced 18 Phoenix turnovers.
Key Performers
Jada Wilson led the Bears with 13 points and seven rebounds, attacking the paint and drawing contact throughout the afternoon. Steffy Cervantes added eight points and five rebounds, going a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line.
Francia Rubio provided a spark off the bench with nine points, knocking down three three-pointers and grabbing six rebounds. Bry'Ann Wiley added six points and four boards in limited minutes.
Defensively, Phoenix held Chandler-Gilbert to just 25% shooting from the field, but Addyson Horsley's 26-point performance proved to be the difference-maker down the stretch.
Tournament Time
Despite the loss, the Bears now shift their focus to the postseason as they head to the ACCAC Conference Tournament.
Phoenix will face top-seeded Pima Community College in the semifinals on March 4 at 7 p.m. in Tucson, Arizona.
