No. 9 Bears Drop Doubleheader to No. 23 South Mountain

The No. 9 Phoenix College Bears fell in both games of their conference doubleheader against No. 23 South Mountain Community College, dropping game one 6–3 before falling 14–3 in the second matchup.

In the opener, South Mountain jumped out to an early lead with three runs in the first inning and added two more in the third. The Bears battled back in the third inning with two runs and added another in the sixth, but the Cougars held on for the 6–3 win.

Phoenix College recorded six hits in the game. Harli Noriega provided a big spark offensively with a home run and an RBI, while Katelyn Larney also drove in a run. Eva Issitt, Olivia Deford, and Hope Hutchins each added hits in the contest.

Maddison Peter started in the circle for the Bears, while Aubree Lovo delivered a strong relief appearance, pitching four innings and allowing just one run while striking out four.

In game two, South Mountain's offense broke open the game early and never looked back, earning a 14–3 victory. The Cougars scored four runs in the first inning and continued to add runs throughout the game, finishing with 14 runs on 14 hits.

Phoenix College collected seven hits in the contest. Olivia Deford went 2-for-3 with a home run and an RBI, while Harli Noriega also homered and drove in two runs. Gianna Baca, Taylor Borup, and Jazlene Barrios contributed hits for the Bears.

Phoenix College now sits at 20–4 overall and 14–4 in ACCAC play, just behind Pima Community College. South Mountain improves to 15–9 overall and 13–5 in conference.

The Bears will have a week off before returning to action on March 14, when they host Chandler-Gilbert for a conference doubleheader at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. at Phoenix College.
