Bears Sweep Roughriders in Home Doubleheader

The Phoenix College softball team powered its way to a doubleheader sweep over Yavapai College, winning 11–3 and 10–3.

Game 1: Phoenix 11, Yavapai 3 (5 innings)

After trailing early, the Bears exploded for seven runs in the fourth inning to break the game open. Phoenix tallied 16 hits in the five-inning run-rule victory.

Taylor Borup led the charge with a three-run home run, while Hope Hutchins added a homer and two RBI. Harli Noriega drove in two, and Kyla Kim, Olivia Deford, and Katelyn Larney each added an RBI.

Eva Issitt sparked the offense at the top of the lineup, going 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two stolen bases.

In the circle, Maddison Peter (5-1) earned the win, allowing three runs on five hits while striking out three.

Game 2: Phoenix 10, Yavapai 3

The Bears carried the momentum into game two, scoring three runs in the second and third innings before adding four more late to secure the sweep.

Hope Hutchins had a monster performance, going 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBI. Jazlene Barrios provided a key two-run double, while Olivia Deford collected three hits. Taylor Borup, Gianna Baca, and Katelyn Larney also contributed RBI in the balanced offensive effort.

Julianna Nava (5-0) picked up the win, tossing five innings and allowing three runs. Aubree Lovo closed the door with two scoreless innings of relief.

Phoenix combined for 29 hits across the two games, showcasing depth throughout the lineup while improving its position in conference play.
