Phoenix College softball split its road doubleheader Tuesday at Mesa Community College, earning an 8–4 victory in the opener before falling 4–3 in the second game.
Game 1: Phoenix College 8, Mesa 4
The Bears used timely power hitting to take the first game of the day, finishing with 12 hits in the 8–4 win.
Olivia Deford delivered a standout performance, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two home runs and four RBIs to power the offense. Gianna Baca added two hits and two RBIs, while Eva Issitt and Kyla Kim each scored twice at the top of the lineup.
Phoenix College jumped out early with two runs in the first inning and continued to apply pressure, adding three runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth to pull away.
In the circle, Julianna Nava earned the win in relief, tossing three scoreless innings while allowing just one hit. Aubree Lovo started the game, and the duo combined to limit Mesa's offense after the early innings.
Game 2: Mesa 4, Phoenix College 3
In the second game, the Bears battled but came up just short despite outhitting Mesa 10–6.
Phoenix College trimmed the deficit with two runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by solo home runs from Taylor Borup and Mckayla Ethington, but could not complete the comeback.
Eva Issitt collected two hits, and Katelyn Larney and Jazlene Barrios each doubled. The Bears created scoring opportunities throughout the game but were unable to capitalize late.
Maddison Peter went the distance in the circle, striking out six over six innings while allowing four runs, two earned.
