Phoenix College softball battled through a hard-fought doubleheader on the road at South Mountain Community College, earning a split in a pair of competitive games. With the split, the Bears continue to receive national recognition and currently sit ranked No. 11 while also receiving votes in the NJCAA polls.
Game 1: Phoenix College 12, South Mountain 9
Phoenix College came out swinging in the opener, using a huge eight-run fourth inning to pull away in a 12–9 win. The Bears totaled 15 hits and showed their speed on the bases, stealing multiple bags to keep constant pressure on South Mountain.
Offensively, Phoenix College was led by Taylor Borup, who drove in four runs, and Katelyn Larney, who had a monster game with four hits, a home run, and two RBIs. Olivia Deford went a perfect 3-for-3, while Eva Issitt added a triple and an RBI.
In the circle, Aubree Lovo picked up the win, throwing three solid innings in relief and limiting South Mountain to just one run while striking out three.
Game 2: South Mountain 8, Phoenix College 7
The second game came down to the final inning, with South Mountain edging the Bears 8–7 in a tight contest. Phoenix College collected 13 hits, including strong performances from Kyla Kim (3-for-4, RBI) and Olivia Deford, who added two more RBIs.
Despite a late push by the Bears, South Mountain used timely home runs to seal the win. Julianna Nava started in the circle for Phoenix College, while Lovo worked in relief.
