No. 11 Phoenix College Opens Season with Doubleheader Sweep at Scottsdale

The No. 11-ranked Phoenix College softball team opened the 2026 season in impressive fashion, sweeping a road doubleheader against Scottsdale Community College to start the year 2–0.

In the opener, the Bears used a balanced offensive attack and a dominant pitching performance to earn a 10–2 victory. Phoenix College finished with 13 hits, highlighted by a four-RBI day from Taylor Borup and a home run from Kyla Kim. Eva Issitt and Olivia Deford each drove in runs, while Kyla Kim crossed the plate four times.

In the circle, Maddison Peter was outstanding, tossing a complete game while allowing just three hits and two unearned runs. She struck out nine batters to earn the win.

Phoenix College carried that momentum into game two, shutting out Scottsdale 8–0. The Bears again totaled double-digit hits, with Eva Issitt recording a triple and two RBIs. Taylor Borup and Harli Noriega each homered, accounting for four of the Bears' runs.

Julianna Nava earned the win in game two, throwing six scoreless innings and allowing only three hits. Aubree Lovo closed out the final inning to complete the shutout.

The Bears will remain on the road to begin the season before returning home on February 14. With strong pitching, timely hitting, and depth throughout the lineup, Phoenix College showed why they enter the season ranked among the nation's top teams.
