Phoenix College Opens Pool Play With 3–0 Win Over St. Louis Community College

The No. 1-ranked Phoenix College Men's Soccer team started the NJCAA Division II National Championship strong with a 3–0 victory over No. 12 St. Louis Community College on November 16 in Wichita, Kansas. This was the first match of Pool A play for the Bears.

Phoenix College took control early, scoring in the 4th minute on an unassisted goal from Bryan Aceves. The Bears doubled their lead in the 12th minute when Tiernan Nicewander finished a pass from Cruzeiro Cruz. Cruz added a goal of his own in the 52nd minute to secure the 3–0 win.

Goalkeeper Jan Villegas earned the shutout, facing only one shot on goal. Phoenix College outshot St. Louis 12–2 and kept steady pressure on both sides of the field.

The Bears will play their second Pool A match — and what could be the deciding game for advancing — against No. 8 Jones College on November 18 at 9:15 a.m. MST. A win would put Phoenix College in a strong position to move on to the knockout rounds as they continue their push for a national title.
