Men's Soccer Set for Region I Semifinal Match Against Scottsdale

The No. 1 seed Phoenix College Bears are set to host No. 4 Scottsdale Community College on Friday, October 31 at 2:30 p.m. in the NJCAA Region I, Division II Semifinals at Hoy Stadium.

Phoenix (16-1, 13-1 ACCAC) enters the postseason as one of the nation's top programs, closing out conference play with four straight shutouts, outscoring Chandler-Gilbert, Mesa, Glendale, and Scottsdale by a combined 19-0. The Bears have been dominant on their home turf all season, holding a 9-0 record at home and allowing just 13 goals in 17 matches.

Scottsdale (7-6-2, 7-5-2 ACCAC) struggled to find momentum late in the season, finishing 0-2-2 in its last four matches with ties against Glendale and Paradise Valley and losses to Pima and Phoenix.

Phoenix swept the season series, earning a 2-0 win on September 13 and a commanding 6-0 victory on October 27.

The Bears' offensive firepower has been on full display this year, led by Tiernan Nicewander (8 goals, 4 assists), Sergio Jaramillo (8 goals, 5 assists), and Bryan Aceves (7 goals, 7 assists). In goal, Jan Villegas and Xavier Rawls have combined for 10 shutouts and a stellar 0.78 goals-against average.

The winner of Friday's match will advance to the Region I Division II Championship, where they'll face the winner of No. 3 Glendale Community College at No. 2 Pima Community College, also scheduled for Friday at 6 p.m. in Tucson.
