The No. 1-seeded Phoenix College Bears continued their win streak with a 3–0 shutout victory over Mesa Community College on Tuesday night at Hoy Stadium.
The Bears opened the scoring in the 25th minute when Alan Garibaldy found the back of the net off an assist from Bryan Aceves. After maintaining control throughout the match, Fredy Alvarez doubled the lead in the 86th minute with an unassisted goal, and Ethan DeRubeis sealed the win just before the final whistle, scoring in the 90th minute with an assist from Landon Vree.
Phoenix College outshot Mesa 13–3 and held an 11–4 advantage in corner kicks. Goalkeeper Jan Villegas recorded the clean sheet with three saves in 90 minutes of play.
With the win, the Bears improve to 14-1-0 overall and 11-1 in conference, while Mesa falls to 4-5-4 (3-5-4).
The Bears are back in action Friday night at 8 p.m. for Sophomore Night against Glendale Community College at Hoy Stadium.
