PHOENIX, Ariz. – The Phoenix College Bears kicked off their 2025 season in dominant fashion, powering past Mt. San Antonio College with a convincing 6-2 victory on Saturday evening at Hoy Stadium.
The Bears (1-0-0, 1-0-0) wasted no time setting the tone, exploding for four first-half goals to take control early. Sophomore forward Connor Kane netted two goals within the first 15 minutes, assisted by Bryan Aceves and Fredy Alvarez, to put Phoenix ahead 2-0.
Moments later, Raul Martinez finished a setup from Jack Cameron in the 20th minute, and Jhoan Soto added another strike just before halftime to send the Bears into the break with a commanding 4-0 lead.
In the second half, Mt. SAC (0-1-0, 0-1-0) briefly cut into the deficit, but Phoenix answered immediately. Cruzeiro Cruz scored in the 51st minute with an assist from Kane, followed by Alvarez capitalizing off Cruz's pass just ten minutes later. The visitors managed a late goal in stoppage time, but the outcome had long been decided.
Phoenix's attack was relentless, recording 18 shots (13 on goal) while limiting Mt. SAC to just seven. Kane led the charge with two goals and one assist, while Alvarez, Cruz, Martinez, and Soto each added a goal apiece. The Bears also tallied six assists on six goals, showcasing a balanced offensive effort.
On the defensive side, goalkeeper Jan Villegas made two key saves in nearly 60 minutes of action, anchoring a back line that held firm against Mt. SAC's late push.
The Bears will look to build on their momentum as they take the road to face AZ Western on Aug. 28th.
