Phoenix College dropped a conference matchup to South Mountain Community College, 84–59, Saturday afternoon at SMCC Gym.
The Bears battled early and trailed just 39–31 at halftime, but South Mountain pulled away in the second half behind efficient shooting and a strong performance from beyond the arc.
Phoenix College was led by AJ Ajawin, who finished with 18 points, seven rebounds, three steals, and two blocks. Alijah Greer added 15 points, knocking down four three-pointers, while Damion Byrd II contributed 12 points and four assists.
The Bears connected on eight three-pointers in the contest but struggled to keep pace with South Mountain's offensive rhythm. The Cougars shot 50 percent from the field and 54 percent from three-point range to create separation after the break.
