The Phoenix College baseball team split a two-game ACCAC series on the road against Paradise Valley Community College over the weekend, earning a 5-2 victory in Game 1 before falling 12-2 in Game 2.
In the opener on March 20, the Bears used timely hitting and strong pitching to secure the win. After a scoreless start, Phoenix College broke through in the third inning with two runs and added insurance late with a three-run eighth inning.
Logan Carney led the offense with a 3-for-4 performance and two RBIs, while Gunnar Gift added a key two-run effort at the plate. Seandavid Loya also contributed with an RBI as the Bears totaled seven hits on the day.
On the mound, Aidan Sandvik set the tone with five shutout innings, allowing just one hit. Abraham Guzman earned the win in relief, closing out the final three innings while allowing two runs to secure the 5-2 victory.
In Game 2 on March 21, Paradise Valley responded with a strong offensive performance, defeating the Bears 12-2 in a shortened contest.
Phoenix College got on the board with a solo home run from Jose Fernandez, and Ty Acton added an RBI, but the offense was limited to just five hits overall. Defensive miscues and a big fifth and sixth inning from Paradise Valley proved to be the difference, as the hosts pulled away late.
